SPEAKING: Spiderweb game
Hi students!
Finishing with the review of vocabulary worked during
the last month, next week we will carry out an activity called the
"Spiderweb" whose purpose is to promote the development of speech and
work topics and vocabulary. For this activity, I, as a teacher, will have
previously created an activity with website EducaPlay with
different images related to the vocabulary that we are going to work on.
To start with the activity, let's place all the chairs
in a circle and I will explain that for this activity, they will have to look
at the image that will appear on the digital whiteboard.
Next, I will randomly give one of the students a ball
of yarn. This student will start by telling a story based on the first image
that will appear on the digital board and then will throw the ball to a partner
to continue the story and so on.
Each student must hold a part of the wool thread. If the ball drops or touches the floor, the student who has not been able to catch it must quickly summarize the story. If an end to the story has not been achieved, it will be the teacher who will finish telling it.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know about the spider game, it sames simple and motivating for our children. In order to improve, I think that it could be easy to use a video, or an audio to record the explanation. For me, it is very easy to read, but for our children I think it's a little bit difficult. What do you think?

ReplyDeleteI was a teacher of Spanish as a second language in Brazil, Russia and Bulgaria. Although the aim was the same: to develop language skills, I did this activity with my students in a similar way. However, I did it on the first day of class to practice introductions. First, I explained greetings, farewells and introductions. Then I did an example with a student, greeting him/her and introducing myself. Each student threw the ball to a classmate, greeting him/her, introducing himself/herself, asking the classmate how he/she was and what his/her name was and saying goodbye. They loved this activity, because, thanks to the playful component, it took away the fear of speaking on the first day and having a native teacher.

DeleteHi Angela, I liked your blog, it is very neat and easy to read. The speaking activity is very interesting and I promise I´ll do it one day. It reminded me the Greek myth of the three sister goddesses that ruled human life's spining a golden thread. Probably we could use this myth in a reading activity too. I leave below a link. ReplyDeleteI think that students are nervous when they speak in a foreign language. So, this activity with technologies can improve their interest in English and practice it in a good environment. Also, is a very useful activity to work the cohesion and empathy.
